There is big money in crunching healthcare data – the National Institutes of Health (NIH) recently awarded $32 million in grants to make biomedical data sets accessible to researchers worldwide. The “Big Data to Knowledge” or BD2K Initiative, anticipates investing over $656 million over the next seven years to collect, analyze, catalog and understand everything from research findings to electronic health records.
